For almost as long as we can remember there has been the roar of planes flying overhead from the airfield, then a moment of silence followed by a flutter and screams of excitement coming from the jumpers.
On some occasions intricate pattens formed in the sky by now competition winning skydivers.

We’ve enjoyed watching the parachutists from our back gardens since 1977.
From the dark days of 1942 when RAF Langar was built to now a centre for sporting excellence, I’m sure Harby would not be the same without this visual spectacle! MS©

Skydive Langar is the UK’s biggest and busiest skydiving centre. Based just a mile down the road from Harby village, Skydive Langar welcomes first timers alongside student skydivers and experienced jumpers to make their descent over the picturesque Vale of Belvoir.
Established in 1977, Skydive Langar has played an important role in the local community for decades, attracting new visitors to the area and building relationships with local businesses to help them benefit from the added footfall.
They are best known in the UK as a training centre of excellence, offering training for skydivers at all levels. They welcome tandem skydivers from across the UK and beyond who come to jump for the very first time, many as part of a charity fundraising effort, others to make special occasions like birthdays and some just to experience something new and exciting.
Skydive Langar also sponsors skydiving teams, including a national championship winning team that includes a couple who live right here in Harby. Many of Skydive Langar’s staff live in Harby and the surrounding villages and they are proud to call the area home.
Before the airfield was used for skydiving, it was an RAF air base. Opened in September 1942 and during World War II, it was used by the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Force Ninth Air Force. It was also known as USAAF Station 490, Station Code: LA.
Local people are welcome to drop by Skydive Langar and encouraged to enjoy a coffee or food from the on-site Ripcord Cafe while enjoying the views of the parachutes flying down.
Anyone who would like to try skydiving can book a tandem jump by visiting in person, emailing info@skydivelangar.co.uk or telephoning on 01949860878. You can find out more about Skydive Langar at https://www.skydivelangar.co.uk.
